Peaches Book Club highly recommends the novel, The Underside of Joy, by Sere Prince Halverson. We had the pleasure of meeting the author at our book club meeting last Friday. The novel is a woman's story. It's about Ella Beene, who is going through a very difficult time in her life. She is trying to deal with the sudden loss of her husband. She takes on the full responsibility for parenting his two young step children whom she adores. The children's mother has reappeared into their lives. The family is adjusting to loss, change, and discovered secrets. Ella is ready to stand up for what she believes is right but her confidence is fragile. The landscape and surroundings are described in captivating detail. Nature and the elements are woven in to this emotional story in ways that will touch your heart. It is beautifully written and you will love it.
We are so fortunate that one of our Peaches is great friends with this talented writer and that she accepted the invitation to meet our book club locally here in Novato, California.
The author shared an inside view of how she put the story together. She told us about her retreat to a cabin in the woods where she was able to complete the novel. It was an absolute joy to hear Sere read an excerpt from the book. We were fascinated as we gained insight to the characters and events in this wonderful book. Here's a photo of me with the Sere.

Thank you so much, Kerry, for this lovely post! I thoroughly enjoyed meeting you and the other Peaches. Loved all the thoughtful questions. Plus, the food was deelish! :) Thank you for letting me join you, and thanks to Maija for hosting such a fun evening.
